Monitoring HLA-A2-Restricted T-Cell Responses and BCLA-Specific Serostatus During Human Latent Toxoplasma gondii Infection Suggests the Implication of CD8+ T Cells in Parasite Containment

We describe in this study a set of Toxoplasma HLA-A2 epitopes inducing CD8+ T cell responses in half of seropositive (Toxoplasma-exposed) individuals. An inverse correlation with BCLA-specific seroreactivity (a surrogate marker for the presence of Toxoplasma cysts in the brain) suggests that CD8+ T cell responses may contribute to reduce chronic parasite burden in humans..
